INDIA: Dassault Systèmes (Euronext Paris: FR0014003TT8, DSY.PA) announced Team Mechanizers (NK Orchid, Solapur) as the winner of the 11th edition of Dassault Systèmes’ national product design contest, AAKRUTI. Team Mechanizers showcased their futuristic Shoulder Rehabilitation Machine, equipped with a remote health monitoring system, which was developed, designed, and tested on Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform. In line with the patient-centric movement in India’s healthcare sector, the machine is affordable, demonstrating a stark 75% reduction in production cost.
With AAKRUTI, Dassault Systèmes has dedicated over a decade to nurturing the engineering talent in India. The 3DEXPERIENCE platform provides students with exposure to state-of-the-art technology, instilling the spirit of entrepreneurship, and as a result, has been empowering the Indian startup ecosystem with a workforce as well as opportunities for the future. This year, with sustainability as the core focus, the four-month-long contest attracted over 3,500 students (a 25% increase over the 2020 edition) from more than 380 colleges across 23 states of India.
Talking about the initiative, Deepak NG, Managing Director, India, Dassault Systèmes, shared, “Incomplete rhythm with the government’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’ vision, AAKRUTI is our flagship initiative which encourages students to develop local solutions to the toughest problems through the application of frugal engineering practices. We help students engage with industry experts and academia to build ready-for-market products. This year, we encouraged sustainable innovations. Congratulations to all the winners for developing futuristic products that demonstrate market relevance and growth prospects.”
Talking about the opportunity, Aditya Metan from Team Mechanizers said,
“We thank the esteemed jury panel for this recognition. As a startup, our aim was to develop an affordable and unique product, and using Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE offerings helped us achieve both. We were ready with a go-to-market product within a month and were able to bring to life our unique ‘remote health monitoring’ feature. We are very excited about the possibilities that lie ahead of us, and thank AAKRUTI for giving us the required exposure and mentoring opportunities.”
Team Kainotomia (KJ Somaiya, Mumbai) and Team Imagination Station (Dwarkadas J. Sanghvi College of Engineering, Mumbai) were declared runners-up for their scientifically designed toys that help kids improve their STEM abilities.
About the winners:
Winners: Team Mechanizers, representing NK Orchid, Solapur, developed the Shoulder Mobilization Machine for different shoulder exercises such as Adduction, Abduction, Extension, Flexion, Internal and External Rotation, etc. Adjustable to the human body alignment, the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) has been used to control various ranges of motion for the shoulder. Ergonomic design considerations were used for arm-size and chair-height adjustment per a patient’s requirement.
Runner-up: Team Kainotomia, representing KJ Somaiya, Mumbai, developed The Convertibles, a versatile RC Toy Car infused with scientific concepts taught in real-time in an interactive manner. The product brings the car modifications from the virtual gaming experience into real-life through interchangeable car body parts and gear-trains, making it a scientifically designed toy for kids.
Runner-up: Team Imagination Station, representing Dwarkadas J. Sanghvi College of Engineering, Mumbai, designed the Engineering Marble Run, a unique product that teaches physics using marbles in a fun and interactive manner. Marbles roll down on a track through all the engineering machines and designs and at the same time experience the motion dictated by the laws of Physics, ranging from Archimedes Screw, Cam Shaft, Galileo Track, Hydraulics, Gear modules, Chain Sprockets, and many more.
