Empowering Preventive Healthcare for Women: Series on Prevention of Cervical Cancer

NEW DELHI: In India, data reveals that every eight minutes, one woman dies due to cervical cancer. Cervical Cancer ranks as one of the most common female cancer in India.   India continues to contribute 1/3rd of Global Cervical Cancer Burden. 

Human papillomavirus (HPV), an extremely common virus worldwide that affects most people in their lifetime, is responsible for the Cervical Cancer burden.  However, the good news is that cancers and diseases caused by HPV can be prevented if detected properly and quickly treated.  Regular screening and vaccination can reduce the burden of this disease

The Apex Chamber ASSOCHAM (The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India) in association with the Cancer Foundation of India (CFI) is bringing a series of scientific and purpose-driven conversations on “Empowering Preventive Healthcare for Women: Series on Prevention of Cervical Cancer” with CFI as a knowledge partner.

Today more than ever the entire world recognizes the importance of vaccines, as part of preventive health. The proposed series will focus on raising awareness on prevention from Cervical cancer through timely vaccinations, screening, and treatment.  The first session of this series is scheduled to be held on Friday, August 20, 2021, at 05:00 PM.

The first session moderated by Ms. Sutapa Biswas, PG Mass Comm, Executive Director of Cancer Foundation of India (CFI) has a stellar line-up of subject matter experts.  Smt. Upasana Arora, Co-Chair, ASSOCHAM National Empowerment Council &  Chairperson, Yashoda Super specialty Hospital will deliver opening remarks for the session and the other eminent panelists for the session are Dr. Joan Benson, Executive Director, Public Health Partnerships Global Vaccines Public Policy, Merck & Co., USA, Prof. Maqsood Siddiqi, Ph.D., Chairman of CFI and Ex-Director, Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute, Kolkata, Dr. Partha Basu, MD, Ph.D., Deputy Head, Early Detection, Prevention & Infection Branch, International Agency for Research on Cancer (WHO), Lyon, France, and Dr. Mrs. Ashe Sahai, M.B.B.S, M.S, Consultant Obst. & Gynaecologist, Sahais Medicare Centre & Mother & Child Clinic.
