Here are some of the top social media moments from across Spanish football over the past week.
The LaLiga Santander season may be over, but this has still been a busy week for clubs on social media as they announced new signings, international call-ups, and more. And it was particularly busy for Villarreal’s social media team, celebrating the biggest night in club history.
Celebrating a historic Europa League triumph
Villarreal is Europa League champions, defeating Manchester United on penalties in the final to bring the trophy home. Undoubtedly the biggest achievement in club history, their social media channels went into overdrive this week!
Bringing the trophy to the next generation
Villarreal native Pau Torres was one of the key players behind the club’s European glory. In what was perhaps the most wholesome moment of the week, Pau popped in on the LaLiga Promises Santander youth tournament being held at the club’s training complex this weekend to share the trophy with the Villarreal youngsters. As an academy graduate himself, Torres knows the importance of Villarreal’s footballing school.
Off-season is transfer season!
Every time a club makes a new signing, it becomes a major event on social media. Clubs have become ever more creative in the ways they announce transfers and the first few deals of the summer were announced this past week. CΓ‘diz told fans to keep hitting F5 ahead of Varazdat Haroyan’s arrival, while Real Madrid announced David Alaba via a mock-up of a computer desktop.
Bordalas lands at Mestalla
Valencia also got creative as they announced the hiring of their new coach, JosΓ© BordalΓ‘s. The club put together a video with a radio, playing clips from radio analysts about what Valencia needs in their dugout and about the pros of bringing BordalΓ‘s to the club. At the end of the video, they confirm that he is the new boss at Mestalla.
Looking ahead to the European Championships
Spain’s squad for Euro 2020 was announced this week, with 10 LaLiga Santander players making Luis Enrique’s list. The players themselves and their clubs took to social media to celebrate their call-ups. For example, Atleti’s Marcos Llorente spoke of his pride as representing his nation, while Athletic Club congratulated Unai SimΓ³n on his selection.
