Is Virender Sehwag the IPL commentator to follow in 2021?

With the IPL 2021 well underway, everyone comments on the latest match or offers their predictions for the upcoming games. One of the most prominent voices among all these commentators is undoubtedly Virender Sehwag.

The former batsman should know what he is talking about. After all, he was Occasional captain of India, Vice-Captain, and captain of the Delhi Daredevils and Delhi Ranji Team. He still holds multiple cricket records and as one of the most destructive batsmen of all time, his opinions should count for something.

Given just how frequently we hear from him, one might be surprised to learn that he retired from international cricket in 2015. But he continues to follow the sport closely and in an interesting move, became brand ambassador at online sportsbook and casino ComeOn. The bookmaker features Mr. Sehwag prominently on their pages, where he swings his bat and is currently associated with a few interesting IPL promotions.

Mr. Sehwag may no longer play professional cricket, but the sport shaped him into the man he is now. One might argue that he also left his mark on the sport, which is one of the reasons we find his opinions quoted so frequently.

Teams may wish to heed his advice, too, as it is a scathing proclamation to hear Mr. Sehwag pronounce the “Kolkata Knight Riders have made things boring for everyone”. So long as Nitish Rana continues to open, the Kolkata Knight Riders are not getting the starts they need to get, according to Mr. Sehwag.

Seeing as this is the obvious truth of how things have been for the KKR, one can understand Mr. Sehwag’s frustration watching their matches.

Furthermore, Mr. Sehwag hopes that the Royal Challengers Bangalore will “shake things up” for their next IPL matches. After being defeated a second time this season, RCB might want to rethink their line-up a little. Mr. Sehwag recommends that captain Kohli should bat at No. 3. Simply dropping a place down might already see a significant advantage by letting Mohammed Azharuddeen and Devdutt Padikkal open for RCB.

Of course, it is easy for Mr. Sehwag to comment from the sidelines. But with 16 years of professional cricket experience, Virender Sehwag has useful insights to offer. He has been quoted regularly lately and one can easily follow his comments on Twitter as well. Hopefully, someone at RCB and KKR is listening.
