    Ultimate Fighting Championship Vegas 23:

    Darren Till vs Marvin Vettori

This time last week we finally got to see the official poster for the upcoming UFC Vegas 23 event due to be held inside the APEX Complex in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, April 10th. The headline fight of the night will be a middleweight contest between Darren Till and Marvin Vettori.

Fans were also expecting to see Zak Cummings and Sam Alvey battle it out inside the Octagon at this highly anticipated event. Unfortunately, Cummings withdrew from the contest on March 11th for undisclosed reasons and has now been replaced by Julian Marquez.

Till vs Vettori: What to Expect

Darren has been having a tough time of it recently. His record sheet has taken quite a hammering from his last four fights, which have included the first three losses of his professional career. A paper-thin split decision win against Kelvin Gasoleum back in November 2019 does little to fill us with confidence, particularly when comparing notes regarding the two competitors.

Marvin has won his last four fights in a row, three by unanimous decision and one through submission. He did suffer a split-decision loss before this, however. Let’s not forget, too, that his last win was against Jack Hermansson – a fighter that nobody was expecting him to beat.

    How to Watch the Fight

The fight is to be shown on ABC which is great news for those who don’t pay for additional sports channels. If you want to see the rest of the night’s bouts though, you’ll need access to ESPN/ESPN+. It certainly is strange to see this kind of sport on ABC as the broadcaster had previously banned all kinds of violent entertainment from the network. Perhaps they realized that the

ESPN+ is currently only available to US citizens, but at just $4.99 per month, it might be worth learning how to use a VPN if you would like to watch the entire event. Those who are based in the UK can subscribe to BT Sport to watch the fight, but the monthly subscription is very expensive. A separate UFC Fight Pass can be a great deal for those who are based in Canada and can be purchased as well costing $9.99 per month with a discount if you choose to pay annually upfront.

What do the Bookmakers Think About this Fight?

America’s largest legal online sportsbook Unibet is currently offering odds of +125 for Darren Till and -152 for Marvin Vettori for those interested in placing UFC fight bets. This makes Marvin the current favorite, but the gap is smaller than the Moneyline odds can sometimes suggest. These odds are likely to change many times in the run-up to the fight, so if you see a price you really like be sure to get your bet on quickly whilst those odds are still available.

Switching to decimal notation for a moment, Unibet’s odds are equivalent to Till 2.25 and Vettori 1.66. Bet $100 on Till and you’ll get $225 but remember that your stake is included in the returns when calculating decimal odds. Place the same bet on Vettori and you will receive just $166 back. Again, this includes your original stake.

So, a $100 bet on one fighter might net you $125 – and it could happen, of course. Bookmakers do get it wrong from time to time! You could play it safe and bet on the favorite, but make sure you don’t bet more than you can afford.

    Fight Times

The UFC has a habit of holding back this information until the last minute. I’m not sure why they do this – do they think it creates excitement? Thankfully the fight card has been released in full at least, so it’s possible to mention a couple of the other big fights you won’t want to miss on April 10th.

The main card begins at 3 PM and boasts six bouts that feature the likes of Arnold Allen, Sam Alvey, Julian Marquez, and Daniel Rodriguez. The preliminary card starts earlier at noon, but still manages to squeeze nine fights into its three-hour(ish) timeslot.

The prelims are always exciting to watch at a UFC event, as many of the fighters can be just as good as those participating in the bouts listed on the main card! A great example of this was the recent UFC 259 in Las Vegas which saw four lucky UFC prelim fighters all walk away with $50,000 richer after their fights were labeled “Fight of the Night” and “Performance of the Night”.
