Planet Smart City joins United Nations Global Compact

The business will support principles of sustainability and social equality through the UN Global Compact Network UK and in its neighborhoods around the world

INDIA – Planet Smart City, the global leader in smart affordable housing, is pleased to announce it has joined the United Nations Global Compact and the UN Global Compact Network UK—a voluntary leadership platform for the development, implementation, and disclosure of responsible business practices.

As part of the UN Global Compact, Planet commits to the platform’s Ten Principles, embracing its responsibilities across human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption. The business pledges to take proactive steps to support the achievement of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, recognizing that people and the planet must be able to thrive for any company to generate long-term value.

Giovanni Savio, Global CEO of Planet Smart City, said: “As a business, we have made it our mission to improve the lives of people around the world. This is more than a roof over their head, it is access to services, infrastructure, and a strong community able to support all aspects of wellbeing.

We are excited to be joining the many thousands of businesses part of the UN Global Compact’s worldwide movement and look forward to working with our peers in the UK network. By pooling our expertise, experience, and resources, we can accelerate innovation and scale solutions to deliver a brighter future for people and planet.”

Steve Kenzie, Executive Director of UN Global Compact Network UK, said: “The core of the United Nations Global Compact’s mission is to support companies doing business responsibly by aligning their strategies and operations with ten universal principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. We also support business taking actions to advance the Sustainable Development Goals. We are delighted and encouraged by Planet Smart City’s endorsement of our initiaitive.

The planet is already engaged in concrete actions to support the SDGs. Enshrined in its manifesto is the belief that everyone has the fundamental right to adequate, safe, and affordable housing. The company not only provides for this fundamental right in countries with some of the highest housing deficits, but it also supports inclusive and sustainable urbanization and builds capacity for participatory community development and management in line with SDG 11.3.

Planet empowers its residents to engage with each other and steer the future of their communities, providing equal access to infrastructure and services aligned to their needs. The business delivers health, education, security, and wellbeing, while the combination of the Planet App and in-person community managers helps residents develop a participatory model of local life that is well-equipped to tackle drivers of inequality. The planet is not only implementing this vision in its own communities but is working with UN-HABITAT to develop similar social innovations with slum communities in Nairobi.

The company is also supporting the environmental aspects of the UN’s agenda. Its communities are equipped with efficient utility infrastructure, while residents are empowered with digital solutions that help them save water and energy. The planet is also constantly working towards new solutions through our global network of partners and aims to extend this commitment to R&D as a member of the UN Global Compact.
