PUNE Dr. Vinita Apte, Founder President of TERRE Policy Centre, an organization working in the field of environment conservation in Pune was honored with the ‘Mahatma Award’ on Saturday. The Mahatma Award is awarded internationally by the Mahatma Award Committee to promote the work of individuals and organizations around the world that have made significant contributions to society.
The Mahatma Award was established by social entrepreneur and social activist Amit Sachdev, Director, Liveweek Foundation, New York who is also known as the CSR Man for the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Bill in India. The award was distributed in Delhi by Shallu Jindal, President, Jindal Steel Foundation, in presence of Sachdev.
Dr. Apte has been honored with the Award for her work and contribution in fighting climate change at the national and international level. TERRE Policy Centre is a leading organization in Pune working in the field of Climate Change and Environment and has also contributed by planting thousands of trees across Pune and Maharashtra in the past few years. The organization has started an Olympiad for students at the national level for environmental awareness and millions of students participate in it every year. The organization has also contributed by revitalizing wells in rural areas, use solar energy and has also played an important role in improving the livelihood of rural women.
